Sigler Companies Earns Recycling Excellence Award for Second Consecutive Year
AMES, Iowa, March 11, 2008 – For the second consecutive year, Sigler Companies has earned Mid America Recycling's Recycling Excellence Award for Sigler's continued commitment to the environment.
This latest award represents a nearly 35 percent increase in recycling volume by Sigler Companies in 2007 compared with 2006, the first year the company was recognized by Des Moines-based Mid America Recycling Co., one of the largest privately held recycling companies in the nation. Total tonnage of recycling performed at Sigler Companies last year increased to 903 tons from 670 the year before.
Sigler Companies' 2007 efforts are equivalent to the following resource conservation:
- More than 15,000 trees.
- More than 6 million gallons of water.
- Nearly 53,000 pounds of air pollution.
- More than 3 million kilowatt hours of electricity.
- Nearly 3,000 cubic yards of landfill space.
In addition to these recycling efforts, Sigler Companies in the past year achieved certification as a "green" printer from the Forest Stewardship Council and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative. The company also was recognized as a MasterPrinter by the International Digital Enterprise Alliance (IDEAlliance®) and adopted the concentric printing process, a revolutionary technology that uses 25 percent to 35 percent less ink than traditional printing.
In a personal commitment to these environmental efforts, 22 employees formed the Sigler Companies Green Committee. This committee has made an immediate impact by raising awareness among co-workers. The committee has shared ideas and tips for lessening employees' environmental footprint at work and home, and will continue to advocate changes throughout the company on an ever-broadening scale.
