Hispanic marketer Nannette Rodríguez named featured speaker at Iowa Bicycle Summit

Innova expert to share Latino perspective on cycling at community planning and advocacy conference.

DES MOINES, Iowa, January 26, 2010 – Nannette Rodríguez, Director of Hispanic Marketing for Innova Ideas & Services, will be a featured presenter at the 2010 Iowa Bicycle Summit at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 30, at Hy-Vee Hall.

Rodríguez will speak on Latinos and their relationship with the bicycle. Her presentation, "A Latino Perspective on Cycling: Beyond Transportation," will offer attendees a real portrait of the Hispanic cyclist in America, an exploration of the cultural reasons that make for cycling's reality within this demographic and how to reach out to this population in our community.

Rodríguez brings a unique perspective to the Iowa Bicycle Summit. Born in Puerto Rico, Rodríguez is no stranger to BMX, road and a little mountain biking, and has experienced firsthand the contrasts between being a cyclist in Latin America versus the United States. An Iowa resident since 1996, Rodríguez is also an active member of the Iowa Bicycle Coalition and orchestrated a partnership to launch "Another Way to Roll" – a T-shirt designed to raise funds for the Iowa Bicycling Coalition. The T-shirt is part of the "Greater Than Goods" collection – a fundraising apparel movement and online store created by Sigler Companies.

The 2010 Iowa Bicycle Summit is presented by the Iowa Bicycle Coalition, the state's largest bicycling advocacy group. The Coalition works to educate and build partnerships to establish safe and enjoyable bicycle transportation and recreation networks throughout Iowa.

The Summit will offer best practices in bicycle advocacy and community building education, and will feature 20 speakers presenting a variety of topics including: bicycle facility design innovations, safe routes to school successes, bike safety, new marketing ideas for cycling and "Ride Right," a safe practices series closely aligned with RAGBRAI, Iowa's premier bicycling event.
